Sky is just little above 1-year-old lower-medium boy, young, affectionate, energetic and absolutely bursting with enthusiasm for life.

He loves people. He loves cuddles. He loves freedom, movement, exploring and having something interesting to do. And right now he is spending hours behind the bars of a shelter kennel, with all that young-dog energy and nowhere meaningful to put it.

Having met him myself this summer, I can say one thing with certainty: this is not where Sky belongs. 💙

💔 Rescue Story

Sky was found tied to a tree near sky-resort in Ukraine. Someone had simply attached this young dog to a tree and walked away. He was only beginning his life, yet instead of having a family, walks, games and adventures, he was left there waiting for somebody — anybody — to notice him.

Thankfully, somebody did. Sky was rescued and taken to a small private shelter, where he is safe and well cared for. But being safe and being happy are not always the same thing.

🐾 More About Sky

This summer, during my annual trip to Ukraine, I visited Sky’s shelter with my daughter and met him myself. The private shelter does everything it can for its dogs. They are very loved, cared for, walked, fed and safe.

But Sky struggles there. Because he is a young dog absolutely overflowing with life. He is a fountain of energy who simply doesn’t know where to put it in his current environment.

There are so many dogs around him, so little individual freedom, and Sky seems constantly to be asking: What can I do? Where can I run? Who will play with me? How can I make these people notice me?

He wants out of those bars and into life.

Sky is very playful and active. He wants to run, explore, go places and experience the world. He is the kind of young dog who would probably think a muddy woodland walk, a run around a grassy garden and a new adventure at the weekend constitute an absolutely perfect life. 🌳🐾

And underneath all that energy is a very affectionate boy. He loves cuddles and will happily try to climb into your arms. He isn’t a dog who is likely to arrive in his new home and spend weeks hiding in a corner. Quite possibly the opposite. 😁

He may arrive excited, bouncing around, wanting to investigate everything at once and wondering which human is available for cuddles. He needs a little time to learn his new routine and understand that he no longer has to grab every opportunity for attention or freedom because tomorrow there will be another walk, another game and another adventure.

🐕 About Other Dogs

Sky currently lives surrounded by many dogs, and this environment can be overwhelming for him.

When there are too many dogs around, he can become confused and unsure how to behave. With some male dogs he may posture a little, but it appears more like an insecure young dog trying to manage a situation he finds overwhelming.

It is also important to remember that Sky has only recently arrived at this shelter from multi-dog foster home, so his dislike of dogs crowds may simply be his response to suddenly finding himself surrounded by a large number of unfamiliar dogs.

He doesn’t need that kind of canine world. We believe he would do much better in normal family life with one friendly, active but balanced female dog. She could be his playmate, help him settle and show him the rhythm of everyday home life without the pressure of having dozens of dogs around him. Or as the only dog in a right home.

🏡 Ideal Home

Sky needs a family who will enjoy him for exactly what he is — a young dog who wants to live.

We would love him to have a home with a decent secure grassy garden where he can run, play and simply enjoy freedom after life tied to a tree and then spending hours behind shelter bars.

He needs good walks, nature, adventures, toys, games and people who enjoy getting out and doing things with their dog.

A young or active family could be a fantastic match for him. Older dog-savvy children aged 10+ could have enormous fun with Sky too, although they need to be comfortable with his enthusiastic greetings while he learns that four paws on the ground work better than launching himself into someone’s arms. 😁

A friendly female resident dog would be good, but he will be happy as the only dog too in a right home, where someone is always around.

What Sky doesn’t need is perfection from day one. He needs a little patience while all that excitement settles. Give him routine. Give him walks. Give him space to run. Give his clever young brain things to do. Let him discover that attention doesn’t disappear, that the garden will still be there tomorrow and that walks happen every day.

Then watch that slightly chaotic fountain of enthusiasm turns into a fantastic companion.

💞 When I met Sky, I didn’t see a dog who belonged in a shelter. I saw a young boy desperately ready for life to begin. First someone tied him to a tree and took his freedom away. Then rescue saved him, but necessity put bars around him again.

Now we have the opportunity to change that.

Somewhere in the UK there must be a family looking for exactly this kind of companion — one who will happily join long walks, countryside adventures and family life, then come home and try to climb into their arms for a cuddle.

Sky has plenty of energy. What he doesn’t have yet is somewhere to spend it, someone to share it with, and a home to return to afterwards. Let’s free Sky. 💙

Sky is fully healthy, neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. All dogs are C.Brucella tested before travel (approved laboratory certificate provided).
