🔄 Update
Nicol remains in boarding kennels, where she is doing incredibly well. All kennel staff and the behaviourist visiting describe her as a very good dog — friendly, social and easy with everyone she meets.

We also now have a clearer understanding of what happened in her last short foster placement when Nicol attacked and injured old resident dog when owner was given that dog wrapped in food medication. This incident shocked us, as Nicol was always very friendly with all dogs on walks. According the behaviourist, who assessed the situation, just before the incidence Nicol was moved between multiple homes in a very short time, without proper time to decompress. There were constant changes in people, animals and routines. In one placement she was confined in a small crate and exposed to incorrect handling methods around food. In that last one she was just 2 days and was introduced and mixed with other dogs too quickly without proper settling time.

All of this created a perfect storm of stress and overstimulation. The behaviourist assessment confirms that Nicol is not a “problem dog” — but a dog who simply did not get the right setup or time to adjust. To set her up for success, he recommended a calm, structured home as the only dog, with proper guidance. She doesn’t guard from people, but guards’ food from other dogs, so to avoid any theoretical dogs-food incidents outside, after she settles, he recommended muzzle training for safety when she will be allowed off leash mixing with other dogs (we are happy to provide full guidance).

🐶 Nicol is a 3,5-year-old girl, medium to upper-medium in size, full of energy, love and personality. She is affectionate, intelligent and deeply people-focused — a real “fountain of joy” who wants to be part of everything.

💔 Background / Surrender Story
Nicol’s life nearly ended before it began. She was brought to a shelter on a rope, and when refused entry, the man threatened to throw her under a train. Volunteers intervened just in time and saved her life.

Since then, Nicol has lived with a huge love for life — she doesn’t hold onto the past, she just wants to live, love and be part of a family.

🐕 More About Nicol
Nicol is a bright, intelligent and very trainable dog who thrives when her mind and body are engaged. She loves walks, play, exploring and being active with her people.

She is incredibly friendly with people and bonds quickly, showing affection and enthusiasm. In kennels, she has shown herself to be very friendly, social and playful with everyone.

Outside, she is playful and enjoys interacting with other dogs appropriately. However, at home she must be the only dog due to food-related behaviours around other animals. This is not directed at people — she does not guard from humans — but requires the right management and setup.

Nicol is full of energy and personality. When her needs are not met, she can become bouncy and over-excited, but with proper exercise and structure she becomes balanced, affectionate and calm.

🏡 Ideal Home
Nicol needs an active, patient, easygoing adult home with no other dogs and no cats.
She would thrive with people who have access to green spaces, beaches, woodlands, fields, hikes either in walking or driving distance and spend time outdoors, enjoy walking and exploring, and are committed to continuing her training.

She must have physical exercise as a priority and mental engagement as part of daily life. An individual/family that are keen for a loyal dog who wants to spend a lot of time with them. Her future family do not need to be very experienced, as long as they are confident around upper-medium active dogs, resilient and know that yes things will be tough from time to time, she may burn them out, but she will love them unconditionally.

They need consistency, resilience, humour and commitment. In return, Nicol will give intense loyalty and love. She needs structure, routine, guidance and someone willing to continue her training — including helping her learn polite behaviours like not jumping up when excited.

💞 Nicol is not a kennel dog. She is a life-loving, people-focused girl who is ready to give everything to the right person. She just needs someone to see her properly — and give her the chance she deserves.

Nicol is healthy, spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. All dogs are C.Brucella tested before travel (owners receive a licensed laboratory test certificate).
