🔄 UPDATE FROM FOSTER
Beautiful Mary has now moved to one of our amazing foster homes. ❤️ And after only a few days, she has already surprised us in the loveliest way.
We knew Mary had been through so much change and expected that she might arrive frightened, hide away and need quite a long time before she was ready to connect. But Mary had other ideas. 🥹
Within her very first day she was toileting happily in the garden, settling comfortably in her bed and even approaching her foster dad Jason herself for affection.
Her foster says:
“Mary is a very sensitive girl who has had a lot of change in her life, and she’s going to need someone who understands that she can’t be rushed.
She’s still unsure around new people and needs time to build trust, but we’re already seeing little glimpses of the lovely girl underneath her worries. She enjoys gentle attention, likes being near her people and seems happiest when life is calm and predictable.
Mary’s journey won’t be a quick one, but we don’t expect it to be. She doesn’t need fixing — she needs time, patience and someone willing to let her learn that the world can be a safe place. To love her as she is.
We’re only at the beginning of Mary’s journey, but we’re quietly confident that with the right person, there’s a very special dog waiting to come out.” 🐾❤️

Mary is around 6 years old, medium-sized, gentle, affectionate and deeply devoted to the people she trusts. She forms incredibly strong emotional bonds and, once you are part of her little trusted world, she simply wants to be close, cuddle and enjoy life beside you.

💔 Rescue Story
Mary originally lost her home when her family had to leave the UK and were unable to take her with them. She was rehomed in Autumn 2025, initially as a foster placement, but her new family fell in love with her and adopted her. And Mary loved them just as deeply.
With her own people she was wonderful — affectionate, beautifully behaved, fantastic with their daughter, good with their cats and happiest simply cuddling or running around the garden.
Sadly, over time it became clear that although Mary felt completely safe within her little family circle, unfamiliar people and the wider world remained much harder for her. Her family loved her, but their circumstances couldn’t provide the quieter environment she needed, and eventually they made the heartbreaking decision to ask us for help again.
Now Mary is safe in foster, and for the first time we have the opportunity to really take our time, understand her and find the home that fits HER. ❤️
🐾 More About Mary
At home, Mary can be an absolute sweetheart. She loves gentle affection and cuddles, enjoys being near her people and settles beautifully when she feels secure. She is house-trained, has lovely home manners and previously learned to walk beautifully on the lead without pulling.
And her first few days in foster are already showing us how capable she is of building new relationships. ❤️
Mary’s challenge is trust around unfamiliar people. If she feels overwhelmed or pressured, she can communicate her fear through growling or snapping if her warning signal is ignored. For this reason, introductions need to happen slowly and entirely at Mary’s pace — no forcing interaction, no expectations that she must immediately accept strangers.
But what we are seeing now is incredibly encouraging. Give Mary space, predictability and the freedom to make her own choices, and curiosity starts replacing worry. She begins approaching. She asks for affection. And little by little, another piece of that sweet, loving girl appears.
🏡 Ideal Home
Mary needs a quiet, dog-savvy home with a secure private garden, predictable routines and people who genuinely understand that relationships with some dogs are built rather than demanded.
A quieter rural or semi-rural environment would be wonderful, without a constant stream of visitors or busy surroundings.
She doesn’t need somebody determined to turn her into a social butterfly. She needs somebody who will appreciate the dog she already is, give her time to build trust and celebrate every little step she chooses to take.
Mary can live with cats and could potentially share her home with a calm, compatible dog.
💞 And perhaps that’s the most important thing we’ve learnt about Mary. She doesn’t need to love everybody. She just needs to find her people. ❤️
People who won’t rush her. People who understand that trust might come in small steps. People who will love the quiet cuddles, the gentle approaches and every little moment when Mary decides that she feels safe enough to give another piece of her heart.
Her foster journey has only just begun, but already Mary is showing us that underneath all that sensitivity is a beautiful, affectionate girl with so much love waiting for the right person. Maybe she has been waiting for you. ❤️🐾
