We are heartbroken and exhausted– and Jake is the one paying the price

💙🐶 JAKE – THIRTEEN YEARS OF LOYALTY, A GOLDEN BOY WHO DESERVES PEACE, NOT LOSS 🐶💙

We need to be completely honest.
Since Jake was first posted, we received a round two dozens of applications. We spent hours reading them, contacting people, speaking on the phone, and even carrying out home checks. And then, again and again, people disappeared — changed circumstances or their minds, stopped replying. We don’t understand why anyone would apply if they are not ready, especially when a 13-year-old dog is waiting and time truly matters.
We were finally hopeful when Jake was collected by what seemed a committed family. NEXT MORNING  he was returned — because they discovered Jake needs to be let out once at night for the toilet.

💙 Jake is a 13-year-old Collie x Springer, medium-sized. It’s better said that Jake is 13 YEARS YOUNG. He’s still active, absolutely adores his daily walks, and truly needs them, so he wouldn’t be best suited to elderly, disabled, or less physically active adopters. At home, however, Jake is gentle, calm, and deeply people-oriented, loving human companionship. He has done nothing wrong in his life. He was loved. He belonged. And now, at the hardest stage of his life, he keeps being moved, assessed, and returned for things that are completely normal for a senior dog.

💔 How Jake Came Into Rescue
Jake belonged to an elderly owner who became terminally ill and was admitted to hospital. Family members stepped in and took Jake, but they made it clear they could not keep him long-term. Multiple rescues were contacted. All were full. Jake did not choose this. And he does not deserve what is happening now.

🐾 More About Jake –UPDATE FROM FOSTER
Jake is a wonderful elderly companion. Despite his age, he is very fit and still enjoys long walks. He is polite on the lead, calm in the home, and deeply enjoys being close to people. He does not like being crated and prefers to sleep near his humans.

He is excellent with cats, gentle and friendly. He is good with children (10+) and tolerant, kind, and patient.

Jake will always let you know via quiet vocals if he needs to go to the toilet or is hungry, which is great, as not many dogs do this. As an elderly dog, Jake will ask you to be let out during the night for the toilet at least once. This is normal. This is manageable. This is part of caring for a senior dog.

🏡 What Jake Needs – PLEASE READ
Jake needs a calm, committed foster or foster-to-adopt home who understands senior dogs.
Someone with secure private garden and close to fields or woodlands, who can offer decent long-leash (and later off-leash) walks at least twice a day to meet his needs- he is still active (!). Someone who accepts that night-time toilet breaks are part of senior care. Someone who values companionship, loyalty and quiet love over convenience.

Jake does not need training. He does not need fixing. He needs stability, patience, and dignity.

💞 Jake should not be spending his final years being moved from home to home. He is not a trial item. He is not disposable. He is a living, feeling old soul who has already lost everything once.

Please only apply if you are ready to commit, to show up, to give a senior dog the peace he deserves.

🩺 Health Information
🐶 Jake is neutered, microchipped, and house-trained. He is generally well for his age.
