Baklazhan — his wonderfully unusual name means “aubergine” in Ukrainian 🍆 — is a 2-year-old upper-small boy with a soft, sensitive nature. 💔 Rescue Story

Baklazhan was found completely by chance. A driver passing a wooded area noticed something down in a roadside ditch. There, all alone, sat Baklazhan. He was frightened and had no one with him. Nobody knew where he had come from or how he had ended up sitting alone in that ditch. Despite being scared, he allowed himself to be picked up and taken to safety.

We will probably never know what happened before that moment. But we can make sure he never finds himself alone and frightened by a roadside again.

🐾 More About Baklazhan

Baklazhan isn’t the dog who rushes straight into a stranger’s arms. When meeting someone new, he prefers to observe first. His tail may tuck underneath him while he works out whether everything is safe, but there is no aggression — he simply needs a little time and the freedom to approach at his own pace.

And once he decides you’re safe? He becomes pure tenderness. Baklazhan starts seeking you out himself, asking for affection and quietly keeping his person within sight. He loves being nearby but isn’t demanding or constantly asking for attention — knowing his person is there seems to be enough.

Other dogs are particularly important to him. Baklazhan loves canine company, thoroughly enjoys playing and naturally watches other dogs to understand what is happening around him. A confident, friendly resident dog would give him companionship, reassurance and someone to share his games with.

For Baklazhan, another dog isn’t simply a nice bonus — we consider a canine companion important for his emotional wellbeing. He is wonderfully adaptable with other dogs and tends to follow their energy. If everyone is playing, he’ll happily join in. If the company is calmer, he can settle too.

At home he is a very good boy. He waits patiently for toilet breaks and can already be left for sensible short periods without crying, howling or causing damage. He simply waits for his people to return.

His lead walking is already not bad and continues to improve.

🏡 Ideal Home

Baklazhan needs a home with another friendly dog and people who understand that a sensitive dog doesn’t need to be pushed into friendship.

He just needs to be given the opportunity to choose it.

A calmer household with peaceful secure garden would suit him beautifully, and we recommend adult home or with respectful children aged 12+ who can understand that initially he may need a little space.

Once settled, he doesn’t want anything complicated from life: a canine friend, gentle people, enjoyable walks, some playtime and the reassurance of knowing his favourite humans are nearby.

💞 Baklazhan may not give his heart to you in the first five minutes. Give him a little longer. Let another dog show him that your home is safe. Let him watch you. Let him come closer when he’s ready.

And when this shy little “aubergine” finally decides you’re his person, you’ll discover just how much tenderness was hiding behind that tucked tail. 💙🍆
