💔 Rescue Story

Ailis’s story is difficult to comprehend. She was found during the last days of February, in deep snow on an empty construction site surrounded by blocks of flats. It was bitterly cold, with night temperatures falling towards -20°C.

For several days, Ailis had been wandering with wire tightly wrapped around her muzzle and neck.

We don’t know who did this to her or why.

The wire had cut deeply into her skin. Her muzzle was severely swollen, and she couldn’t eat or drink. Starving, in terrible pain and frightened by what was happening to her, Ailis wouldn’t allow anyone close enough to catch her.

She kept running until eventually she had no strength left. Only when she collapsed could volunteers finally reach her and rush her to the veterinary clinic, barely conscious.

Had she remained outside through another freezing night, she may not have survived.

Her rescue was documented in photographs and video attached here. It is a story that is painful to see — but what came afterwards is extraordinary.

🐾 More About Ailis

Today, Ailis lives in a foster home with a garden and before she lived with a foster in a flat and behaves beautifully at home. Looking at the happy, affectionate young dog she is now, it is difficult to imagine that frightened girl in the snow.

She approaches new people immediately and absolutely loves human affection. She will happily position herself beside you, making it very obvious that there is a perfectly good dog here waiting to be stroked. 🥰

She is exceptionally clever and eager to cooperate. Her carers say she picks up commands almost instantly and genuinely enjoys learning.

Ailis is also playful and loves toys. She is a young girl who enjoys proper walks, games and having things to do, but she also knows how to behave beautifully in a home. Playful and joyful, but not hyper.

Other dogs are one of her greatest pleasures. She loves dogs and really enjoys playing, so we would particularly love to see her with a friendly, playful canine companion.

Ailis currently lives successfully with cats she knows and doesn’t bother them. However, she doesn’t feel the same way about unfamiliar neighbourhood cats.

🏡 Ideal Home

Ailis could be an incredible companion for a family looking for a clever, affectionate young dog who genuinely enjoys being part of life.

She would particularly love another friendly, playful dog in the home. It isn’t simply that she tolerates canine company — she actively enjoys it.

She needs people who will give her walks, play, toys and opportunities to use that very clever brain. In return, they will have a dog who listens, learns incredibly quickly and seems determined to make her humans happy.

Most of all, Ailis needs what she should always have had: people whose hands mean affection, safety and kindness.

💞 Sometimes dogs teach us something about forgiveness that is difficult to put into words.

Ailis had every reason to stop trusting humans. Instead, she runs towards them. She asks to be stroked. She listens to them. She learns from them. She loves them.

Dogs really can feel like angels when, after experiencing the worst of people, they still choose to believe in the best of us. ❤️

Now we hope Ailis finds the family worthy of that trust.
