UK Surrender(West Midlands, B71): Bear- 5-year-old miniature Shih-Tzu boy

💙🐶 BEAR – A Big Heart in a Little Body, Ready for a Fresh Start 🐶💙

🐶 Bear is a charming 5-year-old Shih-Tzu boy who’s as affectionate and people-loving as they come. After living his whole life in a small, overcrowded home with several of his siblings, he’s now rediscovering what life can be like — walks, cuddles, kindness, and the chance to be someone’s one and only.

✨ Highlights
SIZE: Small (typical Shih-Tzu size)
NEUTERED: Yes
CHARACTER HIGHLIGHTS: Very Loving • Loyal • Affectionate • Bossy with other dogs
DOGS: Best as the only dog in the home – too bossy and not comfortable, can be tolerant with large dogs, not with small ones
CATS: Not tested
CHILDREN: Gentle, older children only (8+)

💔 Rescue Story

Bear’s story began when his owner was sadly admitted to hospital and with a long-term condition could no longer care for her five Shih-Tzus. The dogs were left confused and anxious, and we were contacted by her sister, desperate to help. Four of the siblings came into our rescue, each carrying a mix of affection and uncertainty from their old life.

There was no emergency foster for them and situation was urgent, so I welcomed all 4 at my home with 7 other dogs already in there. When Bear first arrived, he was overwhelmed and defensive — barking and posturing at every dog in sight, trying to control his space. But with patience, structure, and gentle guidance, his walls began to crumble. Within just a few days, Bear transformed from a little tyrant immediately every other dog he sees into a much calmer, happier boy. He is ok with dogs on walks but sometimes can bark. He is so loving and good at home and absolutely treasure.

🐾 More About Bear
Bear is a bright, strong-minded little lad who clearly used to be “the boss” of his pack. He’s still learning how to relax around other dogs — particularly smaller ones — but has made wonderful progress. With larger dogs, he’s becoming polite and tolerant, and most of his “attitude” now comes out as harmless posturing rather than aggression.

With people, however, Bear is nothing but sweetness. He adores human company, loves cuddles, and happily climbs onto laps for attention. He’s gentle, loyal, and craves affection. Bear also loves his walks — in fact, he’s always the first one lined up by the door when it’s walk time!

🏡 Ideal Family
Bear will do best in a calm, stable home as the only dog. He would suit someone who wants a small, loyal companion by their side — a person who can give him love, structure, and the reassurance he’s always lacked. A secure garden and daily walks will keep him happy and content.

💞 Bear has had a confusing start in life, but his loving nature shines through. Once he feels safe, he’s an affectionate, joyful little soul who will follow you from room to room, curl up on your lap, and give you all his heart. He just needs someone who will see past his tough exterior and recognise the sweet, loyal boy underneath.

🩺 Health Information
Bear is fully healthy, neutered and dental treatment done by rescue, vaccinated, and microchipped.
